Ancient History

Did you know that Fleetwood in Lancashire dates back beyond the Roman's all the way back to the Northmen and their long boats.

In fact numerous artefacts of both peoples have been found in the port from Roman roads during when the sea wall was built to coins, weapons and pottery. Which can now be found in the British Museum.

It is even mentioned in William the Conquerors book the Doomsday Book of 1086. Albeit a different name the Hundred of the Amounderness..This is why we have the local road the Amounderness Way.

The history of Fleetwood connects with other areas of the Rivery Wyre which includes Poulton-le Fylde and Kirkham. Even further back in time Fleetwood stood 50-60ft higher than it is today and was full of a partial submerged forests, this is going back over several thousand years.

Fleetwood is one of the oldest towns in the UK and was a major player in the industrial revolution whereby machines would be delivered from all over the world and transported through out the UK from the British Empire.
